What are fabrics for ballistic vests?

Fabrics for ballistic vests are high-tech polyamide materials developed to protect the user in combat and operational conditions. They are characterised by high resistance to abrasion and dimensional stability, which makes them ideal for the production of bulletproof vests and tactical gear. These materials form the foundation of the entire protective system – from the main panel to the carrying straps and MOLLE attachment systems.

Heavy-weight materials – durability and protection

Fabrics for ballistic vests must be characterised by high mechanical strength, which is provided by materials ranging from 120 g/m² to even 720 g/m², as indicated in the technical data for the offered polyamides. High weight makes the material resistant to punctures, tearing and repeated use. The mechanical strength of DurMir polyamide laminates makes them suitable for use in the construction of products such as the MOLLE system in tactical vests, where the material acts as a module carrier.

Fabrics compatible with laser-cut technology and the MOLLE system

As techniques for attaching equipment evolve, fabrics for ballistic vests must be compatible with modern solutions such as laser-cut technology and the MOLLE system. Laminates such as DurMir 560 P DUO and DurMir 360 P WP PU DUO have been designed specifically for precision laser cutting, which eliminates the use of traditional tapes and staples – thereby reducing weight and increasing strength. With such fabrics, it is possible to create zips and openings that can be fitted with modules without compromising the fabric’s structure or the user’s safety.

Special finishes: waterproof, fire-resistant, IRR

To ensure full functionality, fabrics for ballistic vests can be fitted with various coatings. We offer water-resistant (PU), flame-retardant and infrared-reflective (IRR) coatings, which adapt the material to environmental conditions and operational requirements. Such properties are essential in vests used by special forces or in high-risk situations, where fire resistance and lack of visibility to thermal imaging are crucial.
